Plus one

I’ve been tardy with updates and haven’t been cooking lately (miss it terribly) but for several good reasons. I’m working on a new project which is both exciting but tiring and taking up almost all of my free time.

The home that I purchased last year is finally ready and now I’m in the midst of getting everything together before moving in so you can imagine how insanely hectic that is. If there’s anything I’ll say, living on your own, owning a place, forces you to grow up quickly. When you own it, it’s a whole difference (even versus renting). I don’t know how to explain it but you know how when you first bought a place with your partner and you divide and conquer to get everything together, this is all my own, planning, deciding, budgeting ecetera. It’s this whole learning experience that is both hair-pulling yet incredibly enriching.

I can’t call it The Studio because we already have one so while I think of a name, it shall be called ‘plus one’ for now :) It’s another tiny space but it’s 100% mine and I am really looking forward to seeing the completed project. For the first time, I will have my own walk-in wardrobe (that’s actually the most exciting part of the project for me :P ), I’m drawing inspirations here and there, I have an idea of what I want and I guess I am really looking forward to the decorating phase.

I am a little impatient with the timelines but I guess I can’t hasten it because now seems to be the time where everyone is getting their house renovated and decked up too! But I guess I have time to think through the plans, purchase items and let everything fall in place gradually and nicely.

Without giving away too much for now, I’ll share that the color theme is pretty much fixed – neutrals of white and dark/walnut browns (and some greys) accented by summery citron yellows and shades of blue. It will have a walk-in as mentioned, kitchen size is still modest like The Studio unfortunately but that’s all I can afford right now! The main furniture has been sorted out (trust me it was a PAIN! I think after this I’m familiar designing small spaces and the next time I acquire a bigger house, it’s going to be easy doing it up! Because a small space is so much harder to plan for!), I’m still scouting or rather, deciding between two options for a mattress and going to drag T to help me to decide – thank goodness he prefers the same type as I do so no conflict there. You’ll also realize that there will always be ideal plans and dreams but a reality check will occur and adjustments will need to be done either due to space or budget constraints.

So yes. I’m quite the busy bee right now. But I’ll promise to share more when everything is done. I’m still in the search for a nice rug for the living room, an oven – yes sadly an oven wasn’t provided! Oh. And lamps – for the living room, balcony and bedroom. So any suggestions on where to find these items – note, compact size as it’s a small space, please send them over!

Meanwhile, hang tight and enjoy some of the pictures that I’m drawing inspiration from :)
